Building Stable Relationships

Members of the WVU Western Equestrian team know their way around the barn - and they don't mind building relationships while working with horses! In fact, they learn all about horses, ride horses, and develop their equestrian skills in order to compete in IHSA shows or just practice for the love of riding.

The West Virginia University Western Equestrian Team is an amicable and outgoing group of riders and horse lovers. We welcome all levels of riders, regardless of previous experience. Although riding is typically an individual sport, WVU Western Equestrian is a true team – we support one another, assist each other at shows, and never stop working together as a team!

We are a student-run, student-funded club sport through WVU's Sport Club Organization. The team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), the largest and oldest collegiate riding association with over 400 member schools across the United States and Canada. We run placements at the beginning of each semester, but there are no “try-outs” for the team– everyone makes the team and is placed in one of the six riding divisions! Each riding division is broken up into smaller groups by riding ability and availability for weekly lessons at Bobby Dean Show Horses. Our coach is dedicated to providing lessons that translate knowledge into individualized coaching at shows.

All club members are part of all meetings, training, social gatherings and community service.
